Meebs & Markers and Me & God
Isaiah 43:1-5
Fear not for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy one of Israel, your Savior;… Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, … Do not be afraid, for I am with you.
There are certainly days where I feel like I am drowning in my life as a mom. Bobbing around with no direction just trying to hold on for dear life as my kids steer the ship. But, like most moms I tend to look at my faults and short comings and not at the progress that I am making as a child of God, wife and mother. I am too hard on myself and don’t see the life I have as a blessing. That each spilt cup of milk I clean up, every poo-pie diaper I change, every lunch I pack, every nose I wipe, is all challenging me as a person and shaping my very character. I can honestly say that a year ago or even two years ago, I really thought I can’t handle this. It is too much! But every so often I will have a day or a moment that catches me off guard. I see myself being patient, responding in love, holding my tongue, or praying instead of crying, complaining or yelling.
Meebs gave me two great lessons this past week. Repeatedly when things were chaotic, she began to chant Jesus, Jesus, Jesus! And God used her to bring my focus to Him instead of the anxiety of the situation. And also this week I caught myself laughing instead of yelling, as she pretended that markers were make-up. Now that’s real progress.
When I am afraid, anxious, or overwhelmed, I will remember that I am loved, precious and not alone. I won’t be swept way, consumed, burned or drowned. God is with me.

Verse for the Week
Rest. Quiet. Stillness. It is hard to come by as a mom. When it happens take advantage of it and marinade in it. My days are filled with many things but I long for rest both physically and mentally. How about you? How do you find it? Or do you create it by setting up times for yourself? This verse has not left me for two weeks, I keep coming across it and it keeps coming into my thoughts.
Matthew 11:28-30
Come to me, all you who are burdened and I will give you rest, take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
or this is what I pray:
I come to you Lord, burdened and you give me rest. I will take up your yoke and learn from you, for you are gentle and humble in heart, and I will find rest for my soul.

Verse for the Week
I found this today in book that my Dad gave me a while ago, called I ‘m a Good Mother by Gigi Schweikert. It struck a cord with me and reminded me to be thankful for what I have, even if it does not always look the way I want it.
“I Laugh”
I take my job as a mom seriously. I want things to work out just as I imagine-the way mothers look and act on the pages of magazines and in movies. Sometimes when I watch a movie, it feels like those families have more fun, more laughter, more life than mine. It isn’t true. It’s just that their movie lives are set to music. The orchestration enhances their experience, and because I’m on the outside looking in, it just seems better. If I put my life on the big screen, complete with theme music, I’d see that it too is lively, fun, and full of laughter.
God is directing the movie of my life. All I have to do is live it with love, dignity, and laughter. There are little things to smile about even in the greatest of difficulties. It’s all in how I look at the picture.
Today, I will laugh at the funny things my child says, in conversations with my friends, and at the silly mistakes I make. I won’t take life too seriously.
God, create in my mind a different picture-the movie of my life, set to music and full of laughter.
She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. Proverbs 31:25
Below are some of my favorite Hollywood moms. Who is your favorite small or big screen mom?

Verse For The Week
Here is a truth about God that gives me hope. Maybe it will encourage you as well.
2 Timothy 2:13
If we are faithless, He will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself.
Remember we are His creation and we have Him in us. So He can’t disown us or leave us. He won’t give up!

Verse for the week
I have been stuck on this verse for a while, and as a Mom of a three year old it is something I constantly need to keep in check.
Proverbs 16:21-23
The wise in heart are called discerning and pleasant words promote instruction. A wise man’s heart guides his mouth and his lips promote instruction. Pleasant words are a honeycomb sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.
